Articulation Delays & Disorders

 

Many children have difficulty with producing speech sounds making their speech hard to understand or unintelligible. If your child’s speech is hard to understand he or she may need an articulation assessment.

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders

 

An Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder (OMD) is characterized by abnormal resting posture, range of motion, and strength of the lips, tongue, cheeks, and jaw causing issues such as immature swallow (tongue thrust), open mouth breathing, speech delay/disorder, dental problems, and more. If OMD is suspected, request an evaluation today.

Feeding Challenges & Difficulties

 

From newborn babies to adults post stroke, you may find yourself or a family member struggling to eat. If you or a family member is refusing to eat, choking, gagging, demonstrating prolonged meal times or having difficulty swallowing you may need a feeding evaluation.

Language Delays & Disorders

 

You or your pediatrician may notice your child is using less words then age appropriate or having difficulty communicating. If so, your child may need a comprehensive language evaluation.

Tethered Oral Tissues Assessment

 

You may have heard the term “tongue tie” or ankyloglossia. A Speech Pathologist cannot diagnosis a “tongue tie” or ankyloglossia but can assess the effects of tethered tissues across the oral cavity. The tongue is just one area that may be negatively impacted by tethered oral tissues. If you or your provider think you or you child have tethered oral tissues negatively impacting feeding/orofacial growth, request an evaluation today.

Habit Elimination

 

Noxious oral habits such as digit sucking, lip sucking, sucking on blankets/shirt sleeves can cause poor growth of the oral cavity. This branch of OMDs often requires skilled remediation. If you have a child suffering from a noxious oral habit, request an evaluation from a myofucntional therapist.
